Young Adult Catholics

St. Teresa's Young Adult Catholics (YACs) group was formed in the summer of 2018 to strengthen the community of young adult parishioners. The group provides an inclusive platform for parishioners to share perspectives on Catholicism, ask difficult questions about their faith, support one another, and socialize outside of the church setting.

Prior to COVID-19, YACs met on Sundays after 10:00am mass in the Parish Hall for coffee and donuts, then gathered for discussions from 11:30am to 12:30pm. In addition to weekly meetings, we organized regular social activities in San Francisco and around the Bay Area. These days, we primarily meet virtually for book clubs and social game nights.

YACs Goals: YACs strives to strengthen our community and understanding of Catholicism. We do this through our five key goals:

  1. Understanding the Word – We want familiarize ourselves with Bible. Some of us attend the Tuesday Bible study sessions, while others read the Word on their own time.
  2. Contextualizing the Word – In our weekly meetings, we discuss the day’s readings and current events, exchange perspectives, and learn about Catholic traditions. Members are encouraged to bring discussion topics for the group to explore.
  3. Serving the community – We perform regular community service activities and are open to different ways we can help better our local community.
  4. Meeting and socializing with peers – It is important to get to know one another in other settings outside of the Church, so YACs organizes social activities on (at least) a monthly basis. Activities include happy hours, hikes around the Bay Area, dinners, and more.
  5. Supporting one another – Everyone is going through some kind of hardship, and YACs creates a space where each of us can be open about our struggles and find support.
